A very good pair of Federal giltwood two-arm sconces, or girandoles, each with two-branches, hanging ornamental chains, and spreadwing eagles. Superior carved details with excellent “patina” that glows

CONDITION: Exceptionally good. 

DIMENSIONS: Height of each sconces is 30″. Width: 10″ (approximately).

PROVENANCE: Formerly property of a noted collector in the State of Tennessee.

NOTES/ABSTRACT: The name “girandole” is term meaning any ornamental branched candlestick or lighting device that is often composed of several lights. Girandoles came into use about the second half of the seventeenth century, and were commonly made and used in pairs.
